A caring learning environment
Cara Junior School caters for pupils aged 4–12 years with a dual diagnosis of autism and a mild or moderate intellectual disability.
The school opened in 2011 and is under the patronage of the Brothers of Charity. We are located in Mayfield, Cork City.
Cara Junior School provides a learning environment where each child can develop according to their individual needs. We support pupils through structured, positive and caring approaches across the school day.
Our Approach
Supporting communication, regulation and learning
The school uses a range of autism-specific approaches and supports to help pupils access learning and take part in school life.
Communication Supports
Supports such as PECS, communication boards, visual supports and Lámh may be used where appropriate.
Sensory Regulation
Pupils are supported in a calm and caring environment with attention to sensory needs and wellbeing.
